A driving license is a mandatory requirement to drive any vehicle. If you are living or working in the United Arab Emirates then you have to note a very important point that obtaining a driving license in Dubai and obtaining an International driving permit in Dubai is not the same. There are some specific rules that are applied to foreign nationals.
The Emirates authorities approved 36 countries who have high class and International Standards of driving licenses and take these countries on the approved list. National of these 36 approved countries holding of driving license can automatically obtain and transfer a UAE driving license without any training.
But if you have never driven before or not a citizen of UAE or an approved country then you have to follow the UAE driving license procedure and then you need to go for training at an authorized driving school before obtaining a license.

How to Apply for a Driving License in Dubai?
If you hold proof of residency and want to apply for a driving license in Dubai then you will have to undergo a regular driving course from one of the authorized driving schools.
First of all, you will have to go for an eye test from one of your nearest optician or through your driving school. The application form will have to be typed in Arabic and will have to be submitted to the RTA (Roads and Transport Authority), after that you will receive your temporary license. You must have to carry this temporary driving license with you during the training period.

You must have to pass all the internal tests during and after the training period. The theory test will include a total of 35 questions on road signals, the first 17 will focus on general traffic situations, and you must have to correct answer of a minimum of 11 to pass.
The second section is pertaining to 18 questions on a specific driving license, out of which you just have to give a correct answer of a minimum of 12 to be eligible for the road test.
After having a road test, you will have to carry your passport, 2 recent photographs, driving file, completely filled up the application form and fee to appear for a road test.
If you pass the road test you can go to collect the approval paper from your inspector, you will be eligible to drive in Dubai, but if you fail you will have to register in your driving school for 7 more days and get a new road test.
